3rd Forum of University Rectors of Russia and Vietnam held in Hanoi
More than 50 universities participated this year. APP was represented by Timirkhan Alishev, Vice-Rector for International Affairs.
The opening ceremony was attended by Pham Gia Tuc, First Deputy Prime Minister of Vietnam and Chairman of the Vietnam-Russia Intergovernmental Commission; Tran Hong Ha, Chairman of the Vietnam-Russia Subcomission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, and Technical Cooperation; Hoang Minh Son, Minister of Education and Training of Vietnam; Konstantin Mogilevsky, Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation; and Gennady Bezdetko, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Vietnam.
The parties noted that, throughout the history of Soviet-Vietnamese and Russian-Vietnamese cooperation, Russian universities have trained more than 30,000 specialists for various industries in Vietnam. Today, more than 3,000 Vietnamese citizens are studying in Russia, scientific cooperation is developing, the Russian-Vietnamese Tropical Research Center is operating, and the Russian Language Center of the Pushkin State Russian Language Institute has opened. Every year, 1,000 scholarship vacancies are allocated for applicants from Vietnam to study at Russian universities.
The plenary session was then held, dedicated to Vietnamese-Russian cooperation in personnel training and research in natural sciences, engineering, and technology. It was moderated by Timirkhan Alishev. The university heads presented their current programs and promising cooperation projects.
In his speech, Timirkhan Alishev noted the history of staff training for Vietnam at Kazan University. Today, more than 30 students from Vietnam are studying at APP, and agreements have been signed with three leading universities of the Southeast Asian nation. Projects with Vietsovpetro and PVChem in the oil and gas technology are currently undertway, and relevant agreements have been signed for scientific and technological cooperation in petroleum science. There are plans to launch a preparatory program of APP in the country.
The forum continued with an exhibition of Russian universities for Vietnamese schoolchildren, which APP also joined.
