APP takes part in the second meeting of the Russian-Malaysian Working Group on Education, Science and Technology

The event was held in Malacca.

The meeting was joined by representatives of more than 40 Russian and Malaysian scientific organizations and universities. It discussed new joint projects in science and education, as well as the promotion of Russian and Malay languages. The Russian delegation was led by Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education Airat Gatiyatov.

“Over the past few years, relations between Russia and Malaysia in science and higher education have been significantly strengthened, including thanks to the initiatives of our agencies: a dialog between universities has been established, academic mobility is developing, and research ties are being built. The work on the intergovernmental agreement in mutual recognition of education documents, as well as on an interagency memorandum in education, continues,” said the Deputy Minister.

Timirkhan Alishev, Vice-Rector of APP, made a report on the current work with Malaysian universities. At present, APP interacts with 5 Malaysian universities, including the University of Malaya and its International Institute of Public Policy and Management (INPUMA).

From August 12 to 16, 2024, INPUMA held an educational training on best practices in public administration and on the development of Islamic finance in Malaysia for civil servants and employees of financial organizations of the Republic of Tatarstan. In the field of Islamic finance, the plan is to intensify cooperation with the International Center for Education in Islamic Finance at the Central Bank of Malaysia (INCEIF). At present, Kazan University and INCEIF have prepared a memorandum of understanding for signing and intend to start internship programs.

About 40 joint publications saw light in 2022 – 2024 with Malyasian partners, including those with the University of Technology Malaysia, University of Malaya, Petronas University of Technology, Universiti Putra Malaysia, International Islamic University Malaysia, and others. Some of the most popular fields include engineering, earth and planetary sciences, computer science, and energy.

Within the framework of the upcoming 16th International Economic Forum “Russia – Islamic World: KazanForum 2025”, together with its partners, the International Islamic Symposium on Architectural Environment IBEIS 2025 is to be held, dedicated to the issues of modern Islamic architecture and preserved Muslim architectural heritage, as well as an exhibition of architectural projects of students from universities of OIC countries.

A two-week internship for students of the Faculty of Architecture and Environmental Design of the International Islamic University of Malaysia (26 individuals) at the Institute of Design and Spatial Arts of APP to study the Islamic architectural heritage of Tatarstan is planned for September 2025. It is planned that the upcoming KazanForum will be visited by the Minister of Higher Education of Malaysia, Mr. Zambri Abdul Kadir, who will be part of the delegation of the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Mr. Anwar Ibrahim. Following the results of this second meeting, a protocol was signed to outline further steps in bilateral cooperation.
