APP visited by University of Electronic Science and Technology of China delegation

Today, the guests visited two institutes and met with their leadership.
Representatives from the Institute for Advanced Studies in Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Electronic Science and Technology included Professor Shen Xiaorong, Professor Wan Xiaolong, Committee Member Hu Jiehui, Committee Member Yang Jing, and Committee Member Liu Hui.
A meeting with Maria Eflova, Director of the Institute of Social and Philosophical Sciences, and Rezeda Mukhametshina, Dean of the Leo Tolstoy Higher School of Russian Philology and Culture, took place.
Representing the university at today’s meeting, Dr Eflova spoke about the university’s infrastructure, educational and research activities. Particular emphasis was placed on the fact that the university offers both higher education and vocational training.
“The university is pleased to welcome international students. We have approximately 14,000 students from various countries,” she informed. 1,445 Chinese nationals are studying at Kazan University this academic year.
“Our institute has 5,000 students, 1,200 of whom are from the People’s Republic of China. We train philologists, teachers of Russian language and literature, translators, and specialists in Russian as a foreign language. All Chinese students are studying in the linguistics program,” said Rezeda Mukhametshina.
The Chinese language has been taught and studied at Kazan University since 1837, where Russia’s first Department of Chinese Language and Literature was established. Since 2007, a joint research and educational center, the Confucius Institute, has been operating.
APP is participating in the development of the business and cultural program for the International Forum ROSTKI: Russia and China, held in Kazan with the support of the Tatarstan Investment Development Agency. It is organizing various sections, such as the panel session “Educational and Scientific Cooperation between Russia and China: New Projects and Development Trends,” the Festival of Eastern Cultures, and others, in which experts from partner universities in China are invited to participate.
