Current issues of developing cooperation between Russia and the countries of the Islamic world in the field of science and higher education in the context of a multipolar world order discussed at KazanForum

The organizing partners of the event on May 16 were the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Russia and APP.

The event was moderated by Sherif Ged Hassan Mohamed, Chairman of the Arab Alumni Union, President of the Egyptian Association of Graduates of Russian and Soviet Universities, Director of the Cultural Program of the Russian Cultural Center in Cairo. The discussion was joined by Minister of Higher Education of Malaysia Jan Berhormat Zambry bin Abdul Kadir, Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education Airat Gatiyatov, Deputy Minister of Higher Education of Afghanistan for Administrative and Financial Affairs Hasib Maulawi Hamid, Rector of Ufa University of Science and Technology Vadim Zakharov, Deputy Secretary General of the Assembly of Peoples of Eurasia and Africa Yulia Petrova, First Vice-Rector of APP Dmitry Tayursky, and others.

Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education Airat Gatiyatov greeted the experts on behalf of Valery Falkov, Head of the Russian Ministry of Education and Science.

During his speech, the Deputy Minister noted that today in the Russian system of higher education there are almost 400,000 foreign students, of which more than 124,000 from the Organization of Islamic Cooperation countries, and about 33,000 of them are studying on Russian government scholarships.

In his speech, Deputy Minister Gatiyatov mentioned the implementation of the Summer University project, where young people are introduced to the potential of Russian education. As previously reported, from July 21 to August 3, APP will again open its doors to the project participants.

Over the past few years, APP has been consistently increasing its interaction with academic partners in the OIC member states. Currently, the university actively cooperates with 170 universities and partner organizations from 19 OIC countries. The development of international scientific ties continues within the framework of key strategic projects.

First Vice-Rector Tayursky is sure that not all opportunities for deepening and expanding scientific and technological cooperation between Russia and OIC countries have been exhausted. Thus, there was a proposal to expand the number of participants in international academic mobility programs for young researchers to the leading universities of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and Russia by creating the Russia-OIC Academic Mobility Fund.

Deputy Minister of Higher Education of Afghanistan for Administrative and Financial Affairs Hasib Maulavi Hamid spoke about the development of scientific and higher education cooperation between the Russian Federation and Afghanistan in a multipolar world. He proposed short and long term training programs, cultural exchange to enhance mutual understanding and academic innovation.

The session was aimed at identifying and discussing the main directions of development of cooperation between the Russian Federation and the countries of the Islamic world in science and higher education in a multipolar world order.

The event concluded with the signing of a memorandum of understanding between APP and Islamic Azad University. The document was signed by First Vice-Rector Dmitry Tayursky and Rector of the Islamic Azad University Alireza Firuzfar.
